Executive Technology Advisor. Independent judgment on technology decisions that carry business consequences.
Start the ConversationI advise CEOs, founders, executive leadership teams, corporate boards, and private equity operating partners when a technology decision will not hold up under scrutiny if the usual answers are used.
With nearly 30 years in enterprise technology, most of it accountable for outcomes rather than advising on them, I help leaders separate technology problems from leadership, governance, and decision-making problems. Technology is never the lead story. Business judgment is.
As Founder of CHRISMARRSCTO.COM, I provide independent judgment without product interest, staffing incentives, or a consulting firm model that grows with the size of the recommendation.
Previously, I served as Senior Director of Engineering and Architecture at Travelers, where I led modernization efforts across underwriting and policy platforms in a Fortune 100, highly regulated environment. I built and led a multidisciplinary organization of more than eighty professionals across engineering, architecture, DevSecOps, and data, and lived with the consequences of every call I made.
That operating experience informs how I advise today: simplify what the architecture must carry, restore decision ownership, make progress visible to business and technology together, and treat modernization as a leadership and decision-system problem when that is what it is.
Regulatory environments, underwriting and policy platforms, and modernization at Fortune 100 scale.
Secure, compliant architecture and technology decisions in high-stakes operational settings.
Operational constraints, legacy modernization, and technology investment that follows the business.
Platform decisions, scaling organizations, and leadership clarity for growth-stage and PE-backed companies.
I am well suited for board and advisory roles where organizations are navigating modernization, AI adoption, technology risk, or operational scaling. I bring practitioner judgment that helps boards and committees interrogate management recommendations without becoming technologists themselves.
I hold a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from Southern New Hampshire University and maintain certifications in Azure AI, Azure Fundamentals, and AWS Cloud.
Where formal work is warranted, it typically begins with an Executive Technology Decision Review: a clear read on the decision, the options genuinely available, and the consequences of each. Details live on the Advisory page.
